About The Tenth Talent

It all began near the end of 2025, when at sixteen years old I began to realize the futility of sitting on what you've been given instead of trying to grow it.

I live with my parents and 6 younger siblings on 18 acres in Waco, Texas. We live a pretty comfortable life here, with a 5,000 square foot home, chickens, cows and a small garden. We have everything we need and much of what we could ever want. This has caused my siblings and I to grow up in an environment where we are never needy, and we don't really know what it means to have to work for your bread.

My parents realized this early on though, and especially over the last couple of years, my dad began to teach me the fundamentals of business and investing as we worked on starting a clothing company. These last couple of years of working closely with my dad on this business inspired me to want to become a businessman myself when I grew up. Specifically, I wanted to be an entrepreneur, someone who sees opportunities to grow their money and takes those opportunities.

In our church homeschool group, seniors are required to do some kind of large project, called a capstone project, that will culminate the skills they learned in school and launch them into whatever career they are heading towards after high school. Thus, by the end of 2025, as I neared the beginning of my senior year, I was obliged to think of a project that would aline with my desired career.

I knew three things that I wanted this project to fulfill. One, it was going to provide a foundation for me as I graduate and step into investing for a living. Two, my dad had recently left his job as a software engineer in order to begin converting his cash into cashflow so he wouldn't have to work. This capstone would provide a way for me to help with that, and as my dad would be funding it, it only made sense. Third, I wanted this capstone to show people the power and biblical calling of investing and growing what you have.

With my dads help, I went through several ideas, including cabins, house rentals, camping sites, glamping sites, and numerous other ideas. We landed on RV rentals. There were several reasons for this decision, which I have outlined in another post called, "Testing The Market: RV Rentals". I finalized this decision on the investment I was going to make in early March, 2026.

Then came the next step, creating a blog to tell people about the journey I was about to make. It seemed easy enough at first, but it is always the foundational elements that get me. And this time it was choosing a name. I went through dozens and dozens of different name ideas for this blog. And after narrowing the list down to just three names, I decided to discard those and use the current name, The Tenth Talent.

This name was derived from the parable in the Bible where Jesus tells his disciples about some servants who were given a certain number of talents to grow for their master while he was away. The servants who were given five and two talents both doubled it, while the one who was given one talent buried it and returned it as it had been given to him. The tenth talent refers to the completion of investing what you have, or at least, the first major breakthrough in growing it.

Of course, my journey in this area is only just beginning and there is a lot for me to learn. But, hopefully, by reading this blog, you might just be able to avoid and learn from whatever experiences I learn and grow through.

My goal for this blog at the moment is to post one or more blog posts per week, capturing everything I do and learn about investing throughout the week and hopefully even adding an occasional inspirational case-study showcasing the entrepreneurial journeys of other investors around the world so we can learn from the mistakes and success as well.
